Our journey to becoming a B Corp

Over the past six months, Filigree has been working towards becoming a certified B Corp. Like any business pursuing B Corp certification we’ve made a commitment to be more than just a company seeking to make a profit. It involved a promise from us to double our efforts when it comes to making a positive impact on people and the planet. To achieve certification, we need to demonstrate our dedication to treating our employees well, making a meaningful impact within communities and reducing our environmental footprint. These are all things we have been thinking about and doing for some time, however signing up has given our entire team a refreshed focus.

Why this matters to us and our mission

At Filigree, we work hard to deliver a professional and reliable service for our clients. We’re hopeful that B Corp certification will offer that immediate signal not only of our high working standards and accountability, but it underlines what makes us different. We’ve thought carefully about our purpose and how we can bring value for our clients and projects and our new mission statement shows this. We want to empower people, especially underrepresented voices to express their views and influence what happens in their community. We aim to bring people together whilst building trust and providing support. We want the stories we tell to inspire the whole community to make positive, lasting change. How we’re delivering social value through our projects

We are actively seeking opportunities where we can make a positive impact in local communities, and beyond our day-to-day work, one of the most meaningful ways we do this is through pro bono work. By offering our expertise free of charge, we can support organisations doing good who may not have in-house skills in research, engagement or community involvement.

Through a current project with Oldham Council, we’re delivering a suite of new identities and a fresh narrative for their town centre regeneration. Through this project, we have further extended our support by assisting local market traders who needed marketing advice for their stalls. It’s worthwhile social value offer for the project and a rewarding way for our team to deliver pro bono support. Many of these traders spend all their time running their businesses, leaving little time to promote their products effectively. Recognising this, we have offered personalised marketing tips, social media assets as well as copy and design for postcards to help boost their visibility and share their unique stories more effectively. Since we started our B Corp journey, we’ve started measuring the impact we’ve made, which you can now read in our Impact Report.

You can learn more about B Corp and the steps they are taking to redefine the role of business or talk to us about our experience so far. We’d be happy to share our learnings.
