A fresh narrative for oldham
Filigree has been working with Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council in collaboration with Brand Ethos on a new narrative and identity for the town centre and the soon-to-open spaces. Our role included developing a strategic marketing approach while also assisting in reviewing the name and identity for the shopping centre and surrounding venues.
Immersing ourselves in Oldham
Our starting point is to take the time to understand the town and its communities. To help us learn more, we embarked on a guided tour of the town from a local historian who showed us cherished landmarks whilst teaching us about the history of Oldham. We viewed Oldham’s Town Hall as well as Oldham’s Market, both which have remained in Oldham for hundreds of years and are central to its regeneration.
listening to local people
We carried out on-street engagement events, hosted a workshop with market traders, and conducted a series of in-depth interviews with Oldham residents to gain deeper insights into the views and sentiments of the local community. It was essential to ensure that the perspectives we gathered were accurately reflected in the new identities and future plans for Oldham.
delivering social value
Alongside the new identities, fresh narrative and marketing approach we delivered social value for a handful of market traders soon to move into the newly refurbished market. Our pro bono support saw us help them to promote their offer on social media and through the design of postcards to share with their customers. To make these materials as authentic and impactful as possible, we conducted in-depth interviews with five traders, capturing their stories and experiences at the market. These insights allowed us to create engaging, meaningful content that truly represented their journey and helped promote their stalls effectively.
