Our brief  was to conduct research and business engagement across Hounslow to gather insights from organisations on youth skills and fair pay.

Shortly into our work, we were asked to step up to support a transformation project which saw us prepare a strategy to guide an organisational change setting the team up for a fresh way of working with local businesses.

Borough-wide research

We drew up an engagement plan, identifying key sectors and business clusters to target and we pinpointed job-seeker events, conferences and networking days.

Our goal was to reach as many employers as possible and we interviewed a wide range of organisations to gauge attitudes towards recruiting local young people, perceptions and barriers and views on paying the London Living Wage.

Joining employer events and networking opportunities

Campaigning across Hounslow

Conducting thorough desk research, we were able to identify the best ways to promote the Living Wage by learning from other approaches across the UK.

We devised and delivered a campaign to raise awareness of the Living Wage amongst businesses. Being an accredited Living Wage employer ourselves, we explained the benefits and encouraged those already paying the wage to become accredited.

We hosted workshops with Heathrow Academy and the Creative Enterprise Zone, issuing media releases and securing coverage in local business publications. We also created and managed a social media campaign, using employer insights gathered from our research to share businesses’ perceived benefits of paying the Living Wage.

Strategic advice for mobilisation

We are currently supporting the team with a mobilisation plan which involves coaching workshops, communications and customer journey mapping to optimise the engagement with local businesses, learning providers and Hounslow jobseekers.

The change in remit and ask was no issue for Filigree, with a new project plan developed alongside service staff and the PMO and timelines seamlessly adjusted to meet the new ask.

Filigree worked with Hounslow to profile both residents and businesses and determine their baseline with regards to apprenticeships, levy transfer, London Living Wage accreditation, supporting young residents successfully into employment, work experience and placement opportunities.

We are extremely happy with the work that Filigree has produced and look forward to continuing to work with them as it develops further.
